On discomfort from the inner voice and silence and one of its interventions

What makes listening to people talk on YouTube--especially listening to long videos that discuss topics that are irrelevant to your life, for example: a nearly six hour history of the MMORPG EVE Online; a plot description and analysis of the manga series Berserk, created by Kentaro Miura, that is twenty-one hours, sixteen minutes, and thirty-eight seconds in duration; a four and a half hour history and analysis of the rise and fall of the YouTube mukbang auteur Nikocado Avocado, a former vegan, and an accomplished violinist, who gained over two hundred pounds while creating videos of himself eating primarily fast-food take-out--so  addictive?

  1. It is exogenous.

  2. It is novel.

  3. The voice is serious, interested. The tone implies importance.

  4. The voice is calm.

  5. The sentences are rehearsed. Their cadence and inflection are polished.

  6. The voice renders your own (inner) voice less nettlesome.

  7. The voice reduces the agony of the silence.
